Counting the cost

How often do you do the right thing, without first counting the cost?

Who, Why, Where?

Sometimes I ponder who I am, and I struggle to define myself beyond what I do.

Sometimes I wonder if my presence here on earth is some bizarre cosmic joke, at which the entirety of heaven (and hell) laughs.

Sometimes I question the eternal. Do I desire eternity more than I fear dieing?

**********

Do you ever ponder who you are?

Do you ever wonder why you are here?

Do you ever question where you are going?

Well then...... I guess that makes two of us!

Fear and hope

Do you believe that fear and hope are mutually exclusive?

Isn't it possible that fear and hope are just different sides of the same coin?

After all, aren't the present and the future each pregnant with both opportunity and danger?

Does it make sense that fear, which is the anticipation of possible danger, would not go hand in hand with hope, which is the anticipation of possible deliverance?

I think fear can be a good thing. In fact, I would even venture so far to say, that fear is a necessary thing.

What about you?

What do you think?

God's love

Do you believe God loves you?

How do you experience His love?

Knowing

How do I leave the "fullness of knowing" to God?

How do I balance my need to know and to understand, with my deep love of mystery?

Perhaps it is in God alone, that these two poles are equalized, united and made whole....

Transformation

Have you ever noticed how true transformation is both radical and unsettling?

Green tea what?

Why, oh why, do Starbuck's Tazo® Green Tea Frappuccino's have to taste so freaking good?

Surprise!

God is all knowing, right? (omniscient)

God is all powerful, right? (omnipotent)

And, according to scripture, God knows each of us better than we know our own selves.

Assuming you accept and believe this, do you think it is possible for any one of us to surprise God?

Happiness

What is true happiness?

Do you confuse your happiness with getting your own way?

Sometimes I do.....

What would you do?

My sister asked this question on her blog recently, and I'm stealing it from her!

If you knew that today was your last day on Earth, what would you do?

Dirty words.

Is "tolerance" a dirty word?

Sometimes it feels like it is...why is that?

A laughing Jesus?

I think that our God has a fantastic sense of humor.

So, why is it that I can't find any biblical references of Jesus laughing?

Jesus weeps. Jesus mourns. Jesus heals; but does he ever laugh in scripture?

Don't you find that odd?

Heavy Questions

What is "evil"?

Is evil a thing?

Does evil have a purpose?

Heavy questions from my cold heavy head....

Belonging

Community.

In our aloneness, we each strive to find a place to belong.

What does community mean to you?

Very curious.

Do you maintain your own blog?

Why?

Do you read blogs?

Why?

These questions have been on my mind a lot lately....

...so I am very curious to know the motives and reasons of others.

Why?

Have you ever blamed God for your suffering and your pain?

If you have, you are not alone.

Consider for a moment, Job's words in the Holy Bible:

Why won't you leave me alone, even for a moment?
Have I sinned?
What have I done to you O watcher of all humanity?
Why have you made me your target?
Job 7:19-20

Like many of us, Job suffered and Job wondered.....

Have you ever asked God why he allows your suffering?
(I have.)

Did he answer?
(Yes, and no.)

What did he say?
(He has a purpose for everything.)

I was not comforted by that answer.

Are you?
