This morning, I ran across an interesting phrase in a book I am reading.

That phrase is, "sacred time".

What is "sacred time"?

What does "sacred time" mean to you?

Is it possible that sarcasm is just another form of verbal abuse?

If not, why?

Father Bob really got me to wondering....

Where do all those missing socks go to anyway?

Does the dryer eat them?

Have you ever fantasized about possessing a supernatural power?

I have....

Which supernatural power would I most desire?

For me, it would be the power to heal.

How about you?

Are you self-destructive?

This seems like such a simple question.....

and yet, answering truthfully requires that we know our true selves.

Do you know your true self?

Who are your heroes?

Why are they your heroes?

Do you believe we have fewer heroes than former generations?

Why are there so many questions everyone is afraid to ask out loud?

Don't know what I mean?

Well, if you go to church just try asking one of these humdingers....

"What does it mean if I stake my life on God, and God lets me down? What does that say about God and how do I live with that kind of disappointment?"

or...

"Why does God play hide and seek?"

or...

"Is it possible that the deep, insatiable yearning for a miracle in one's life is born out of a lack of faith, rather than by faith's abundance?"

Why are people so afraid to ask, to explore and to live with these kinds of questions?

Why do people always pray with their eyes closed?

Would you ever tell someone who prays with their eyes wide open that they are irreverent?

That's what someone told me recently....

Kind of sad, huh?

Today in my morning prayers I asked God, "God, why me?"

And God answered, "Why not you?"

Why not, indeed?

......and whether I asked this of God in lamentation or praise is beside the point, isn't it?

The question, "Why not you?" still remains.

Where does your time go?

Do you spend as much time on your "want to's" as you do on all of those demanding "shoulds"?

If you could lead any life other than the one you already lead, what would that life be?

Would you choose a life of fame?

A life of wealth?

Or maybe, you would choose a quiet life, lived in seclusion?
(Believe it or not, some of us would choose just such a life....)

Perhaps the life we imagine, has something to teach us about ourselves, about our lost dreams, and about our hidden potential?

Then again, maybe I'm just one of those crazy, half baked nut cases who's always trying to blow smoke up everyone's pooper?

Now, how's that for a lovely image?

Have you ever experienced a personal failure that later became a blessing?

Do you fear death?

Why?

Do you believe death is the end, or just another beginning?

Are there any stupid questions?

(I would submit that there are. "Are we there yet?" comes immediately to mind!)

Do you think it's wrong/sinful/whatever to swear?

Aren't there times when the "f" word just about sums up every foul thing you've ever felt, seen or heard?

Doesn't it just feel good to let a few salty words fly now and then?

Or am I the only one that feels this way?

If your conscience urged you to take a position on a controversial issue (like abortion, homosexuality, ect), that was contrary to the teachings of your church, would you do it?

Did you know that 100 years ago, the phrase "born again" was rarely used in the Deep South to describe the breakthrough experience of personally encountering Christ?

Instead, people would say things like, "I was seized by the power of a great affection."

I think that's lovely, don't you?
